Definition of Absenteeism

Everyone takes off from the work due to personal or professional reasons but when the employee starts taking off habitually, it causes a great work loss for the company. Absenteeism leads to pending work that other colleagues have to get done for the absent person.

Companies allow employees to take off from their job for vacations, personal time, or for medical reasons which is normal. Disability leave or holy festival leaves are also legally protected by law.

High absenteeism is caused by job dissatisfaction, personal or medical issues. Despite the root causes, high absenteeism creates a negative image of the employee in the company which threatens long-term employability.
