Definition of Business Intelligence Software



First business intelligence software system was developed by IBM and Siebel between 1970 to 1990. Business intelligence software is used by companies for easy decision making by retrieving, analyzing, and transforming data into meaningful business insights. This includes data visualization, dashboards, reports, data warehousing, etc. In opposite to competitive intelligence, business intelligence software uses internal data of the business rather than outside data.

 


Big Data has gained popularity, so has Business Intelligence Software. Companies produced a large amount of data and converting that data into useful reports is important to improve business processes and outcomes.
