Definition of Calorie



One of the units of energy is calorie and it is stated as that amount of heat energy which is required by one gram of water to increase its temperature by one degree Celsius. This unit of energy is employed in the field of chemistry as well as in nutrition. In chemistry, it is represented as c and is known as a small calorie.

 


On the other hand, in nutrition, it is denoted as C and is defined as the amount of heat energy that must be supplied to one kilogram of water so that its temperature is raised by one degree Celsius.
