Definition of Cdna Library

DNA library is formed by the various fragments of DNA molecules which are first generated and then introduced in the population of micro-organisms. These fragments are propagated in the living systems through the process of molecular cloning. DNA libraries are of three types i.e. cDNA libraries, genomic libraries and mutant libraries.

The cDNA library is created with the molecule, messenger RNA. It is responsible for carrying the information from the DNA to the ribosomes in order to translate it into protein molecules. These mRNA are first treated with an enzyme known as reverse transcriptase. In this way, the complementary DNA (cDNA) molecules are formed. The sampling of transcribed genes is represented in this kind of library.
