Convenience sampling or grab sampling or availability sampling is a non-probability technique used by the researcher to collect data from the respondents that are easily available to participate. The only merit in convenience sampling is the easy availability of the respondent. This technique is economical and uncomplicated for data collection.
Example of Convenience Sampling:
The interviewer asks the people at malls, bus or railway stations, cinema halls, etc. to answer his questions. Convenience sampling is different than random sampling even though the sample is randomly selected from the list.
Convenience sampling is often not recommended for research purposes due to sampling error or no proper representation of the population.
