Definition of Copay

Copay is a standard part of a health insurance policy that is required by the insurers. The copays are demanded by the insurer at the time of receiving services like doctor visits and prescription writing.

Every time a insured person visits a doctor or a doctor writes a prescription for drugs, the insured person will have to pay a fixed dollar amount for example, $20 per doctor visit and $10 for each prescription, to the insurer a copay. However, it is not mandatory for every insurance company to ask for copay.
