Definition of Dealer Invoice Price



Dealer invoice price is a price at which the manufacturer sells the merchandise to the dealer. The dealers of motor vehicles, equipment, and other items usually work on an incentive basis. The dealer is invoiced by the manufacturer to sell the item to a consumer at a price that is above the dealer invoice price. The amount a consumer pays which is above the dealer invoice price will be the incentive for the dealer.

 


Assume, a dealer is selling a boat for $18,000 and the dealer invoice price is $15,000. The customer has the knowledge of the dealer invoice price negotiates a reasonable price with the dealer and buys the boat for $16,200.
