Definition of Devil’s Advocate



Devil’s advocate is a term referred to a person who opposes the idea presented in the group and ask people to look on the other side of the story to discuss the points which are not discussed or given value. Devil’s advocate helps the organization in making a high-quality decision by avoiding groupthink.

 


Devil’s advocate role is to act as a critic on the proposed decision and highlight the issues with the options. His critics are backed by valid points and research. Devil’s advocate is an active member of final decision-making board to avoid the company in making expensive or unrecoverable mistakes.
