Definition of Environmental Scanning

Every business has two environments in which it operates. Internal environment refers to the organizational corporate working environment while the external environment is the mix of dynamic forces which has a direct or indirect effect on the company.

Companies scan their environment to understand the new developments in the market and how other factors help them in achieving their goals.  Organizations do environmental scanning for trend analysis of historical events to make their future events strategy. This is critical for the survival and success of the company.
