Definition of F1 Generation

The F1 generation is referred to as the first filial generation. The filial generation is a name that is given to the succeeding set of offspring that is produced from the controlled reproduction. The first or the initial generation is the parental generation and it is depicted by the letter P.

The F1 generation is the first set of offspring that arise from this parental generation. The F1 generation then becomes the parents and reproduce in order to form the F2 generation. The father of genetics Gregor Mendel unlocked those secrets by which the traits were passed down to the resulting generations.
