Definition of High Deductible Health Plan

A high deductible health plan is a type of medical insurance plan that covers the remaining portion of the total medical expense after the insured has paid a higher minimum out of his pocket. In this type of health care plan, the burden is on the insured to bear the medical expenses out of his pocket of up to $1400 for individual and $2800 for family medical expenses.

However, due to this clause, the insurance premiums are lower than other health care plans. This is why it is often beneficial when a huge medical expense is required.
