Definition of Human Resource Management

Human Resource Management (HRM) is a strategic approach first introduced in the 1960s when the value of labor relations got attention and human resource strategic terms like organizational behavior, motivation, selection, and promotion criteria start taking shape.

Human Resource is used to describe both people working for the organization and the departments who are controlling them. This is a strategic approach to the effective management of the people for better organizational productivity by focusing on policies and systems. HR departments are engaged in providing a system where they will look after employee-related issues, benefits, performance appraisal, training, and development, hiring and firing of an employee, change management, organizational development, and industrial relations.

The HR department is also responsible to actively make necessary changes as per the requirements of governmental laws or collective bargaining.
