Definition of Intersexual Selection

Sexual selection is of two types i.e. intrasexual selection and intersexual selection. Intersexual selection is defined as such a type of selection which is resulted due to the interactions between the opposite genders i.e. males and females. One of the two sexes would tend to develop certain traits and afterwards display them to the females in order to attract the females towards them.

Moreover, the males also adopt some behavioural patterns which will help them enhance their attraction towards the females. Examples of such characteristics include the plumage of birds, the courtship display in fish, etc.
