Definition of Intranet

An intranet is a private computer network that is used within an organization among its employees to communicate, access important files/information, and share data. This network is normally private and is not accessible to people from outside the organization.

An intranet is usually set up on a local (within the organization) server and the people who are granted special access can access it to perform their designated tasks and duties.

Intranet contains multiple benefits including increased security and more control as the organization can monitor each employee’s activities and a database stores all of their activities.

People within an organization can collaborate and work on similar projects quickly. The communication is specific to each employee thus increasing efficiency and performance.
