Definition of Telophase

The fifth and the final stage in the process of mitosis is named as the telophase. Mitosis is a process in which the duplicated genetic material of the parental cell is divided among the two daughter cells. This stage begins when the replicated and paired chromosomes get separated and are pulled towards the opposite poles of the cell by the help of spindle fibers.

After this, a new nuclear membrane is formed around the set of chromosomes. The chromosomes then start to get uncoiled and hence become less dense and less compact. Side by side, the cell also initiates the process of cytokinesis in which the cytoplasm of the parental cell divides into the two daughter cells.
