Definition of Gene Modification

Gene modification is the change in the sequence of the DNA of the gene. It is a technique through which the traits of the organisms such as animals, plants and micro-organisms can be changed. This is done by the transfer of DNA from one organism to the other. Gene modification has its own significance as the desired traits can be added into the organisms through this.

Certain species of bacteria and fungi are developed through this technique and medicines are acquired from them too. The organisms which are resistant to certain factors such as drugs, drought etc. can be achieved through genetic modification. It is also feasible to achieve a new variation of organisms that exhibit the right properties by the transfer of desired genes into those organisms.
