Definition of Primosome

In the process of replication of DNA, the RNA primer is the component that activates the DNA polymerase. This RNA primer is synthesized by the component of a complex molecule which is termed as primosome. The primosome is composed of two enzymes which are named as primases and DNA helicases.

These two enzymes are allowed to move as one unit along the single strand of the DNA in order to form a replication fork. The primosomes are mainly composed of nucleic acids and proteins. It has been known that there are seven different types of proteins in a primosome.
